Things To Do In Canggu
Canggu is teeming with things to do but it’s also the kind of place where you can do as much or as little as you want, seeing as it has such a relaxed vibe.
If you’re set on an energy-pumping adventure, just want to chill on the beach or are excited to try something new then Canggu has you covered on all bases.
Here are some of the best things to do while you’re here in Canggu:
1. Take a Surf Lesson at Echo Beach
Echo Beach is one of the best spots along the west coast of Bali for surfing with a range of different breaks, making it suitable for a range of different surf skill levels.
Its popularity has seen an explosion of surf camps and schools opening up along the stretch of the coast. Mojo Surf Camp is one of the top contenders, offering luxury hostel stays, fun activities and plenty of lessons – we highly recommend it!
Whether you are a complete beginner or have some experience on a surfboard, Echo Beach is a great location for taking a surf lesson and enjoying the waves.

During the week, their breakfast dishes come paired with a coffee or juice for just 110,000 IDR!

Copenhagen has plenty of sweet and savoury options on their menu, with a build-your-own brunch system which allows you to create your ultimate brunch. The main café in Canggu is usually quite busy so expect to have a wait for a table.
- The Brunch Club – The Brunch Club is known for its indulgent dishes that will definitely satisfy anyone with a sweet tooth. Their signature “Porn Cakes” are particularly raved about – a take on the fluffy Insta-worthy Japanese souffle pancakes.
- Cinta Café – Cinta‘s menu has a good mix of healthy and not-so-healthy options, but the smashed avocado toast and smoothie bowls stand out as favourites among the regulars. The dishes here are always Insta-worthy, making it a popular spot for foodies looking to snap a shot for their feed.
- Touché – Touché is a bit of a hidden gem in Canggu and offers a minimalist but cosy vibe. You’ll find your typical brunch classics here alongside their standout dishes like truffle scrambled eggs. It’s a great spot to relax, enjoy a coffee, and savour delicious food in a chilled-out setting.

3. Relax at a Beach Club
Just because Canggu is known as being an iconic surf scene, it doesn’t mean you have to always spend your time in the water – relaxing on the beach can be just as fun, especially when you get entrance to a beach club!
With stunning ocean views, great service and delicious cocktails, these beach clubs are ideal for unwinding after a day of more high-stakes adventuring:
- The Lawn – Located right by Berawa Beach, The Lawn has a chilled vibe with plenty of bean bags to lounge on while you kick back and relax. It’s the perfect place for watching the sunset or just relaxing by the pool. With a solid menu of food and drinks, it’s a great spot to hang out with friends, meet locals or spend a few hours unwinding.
- La Brisa – La Brisa has a bit of a boho beach vibe and looks straight out of a movie scene. Think rustic, wooden decor, a cool pool to dip into, and constant multi-coloured drinks on tap. It’s got a relaxed vibe during the day, but as the sun sets, things get a little more lively.
- FINNS – If you want to take your beach day to the next level, head to FINNS. This beach club has a huge pool with a swim-up bar, a full fitness centre and even a water park for kids. It’s a bit more family-friendly compared to some of the other spots, but it still has a cool, lively atmosphere with plenty of space to relax.
- Atlas – Located in the heart of Canggu, Atlas blends luxury with a relaxed atmosphere. It’s a little on the pricey side compared to other beach clubs but its stunning decor and VIP-esque atmosphere makes it easy to see why.

4. Shop at the Local Markets
Who doesn’t love having a mooch around the stalls while exploring a new location?
Canggu is packed with vibrant local markets where you can discover everything from handmade crafts to fresh produce, and of course, plenty of cool, one-of-a-kind items to take home.
While visiting Canggu, we’d recommend having a wander around these markets:
- La Brisa Sunday Market – La Brisa is one of the most popular markets in Canggu, where you’ll find an array of vendors selling everything from clothing to fresh juices and local artwork. It’s a relaxed spot to explore the lively atmosphere, and you might just find that perfect piece to remind you of your Canggu adventure.

6. Learn a New Sport
As you might have gathered, Canggu is the perfect location for trying something new – especially if you’re sporty.
While visiting Canggu you might like to try the new and upcoming hobby of many influencers – padel at Jungle Padel or try your hand at volleyball on one of the region’s many beaches!
With so many people visiting the area, you’ll quickly find someone to play head-to-head against if you’re travelling alone!

7. Take on Canggu Nightlife
Canggu’s nightlife scene is all about having fun, whether you’re looking for a chilled spot to wind down with a drink in hand or a place to dance the night away. If you’re searching for a party then you’ll certainly find one!
If you want something laid-back, Old Man’s is the perfect spot. It’s right on the beach and has a relaxed vibe during the day, but once the sun sets, the crowds begin to gather, and the music sets a good atmosphere for dancing if you’re feeling it.
For a bit more energy, Motel Mexicola is where the party’s really at. With its vibrant decor, great Mexican food, and delicious cocktails, it’s the kind of place where you’ll end up staying longer than you told yourself you would. It’s a very lively spot – great for meeting new people!

8. Watch the Sunset on Bean Bags at the Beach
One of the best ways to wind down in Canggu is by grabbing a bean bag and watching the amazing sunset at one of its beautiful beaches.
Berawa Beach is a great spot for this, with beachfront bars offering comfy seating and a perfect view of the sun dipping below the horizon. It’s a laid-back place where you can sit back, sip on a cocktail, and enjoy Bali’s natural beauty.
For a quieter option, Pantai Pererenan Beach is never usually as crowded, but the sunsets here are just as stunning. Whether you’re on a bean bag or just chilling on a towel in the sand, it’s the perfect way to end your day.

9. Family-Style Dinner with Strangers at Sa’Mesa Italian
Feeling a bit lonely and dreaming of a homecooked meal with your family? Then look no further than Sa’Mesa Italian.
With the motto “Come as strangers, leave as friends,” Sa’Mesa invites you to join a communal dining experience where everyone is welcome, and the focus is on great food and even better company.

12. Go Coffee Shop Hopping
Canggu, like a lot of places in Bali, has an incredible coffee scene..and cafe hopping here isn’t just about grabbing a quick drink – it’s a whole experience!
From Instagram-worthy interiors to some seriously good brews, the cafes here are next level. Some of our favourites include 7am Bakers Club, Baked Perenanan and Fold.
Most cafes also double as coworking spaces, so you can settle in for a few hours with your laptop if you want.

13. Do a Yoga Class
Taking a yoga class in Canggu is pretty much a rite of passage. After all, it is the perfect place for relaxing.
You can do yoga in some incredible locations such as bamboo shalas overlooking the rice fields or beachfront sessions at sunset.
Most studios offer everything from gentle flow to power yoga, so you can get involved whether you can nail a headstand or whether you’re as stiff as a board.
We’d recommend checking out The Practice, The Freebird Studio and our personal favourite, Chandra Yoga in the rice fields.

14. Eat like a Local
As is always the case with travelling, you can find the best food away from the touristy restaurants. You get better, more authentic food for a better price, what’s not to love?!
You can get delicious homemade meals for less than £2 – it’s so much better than eating in restaurants aimed at tourists selling bad food for high prices.
Plus, you support a local business as most small restaurants in Canggu are a family business. Top Tip: search for “warungs” when travelling in Bali – these are small, family-run restaurants.
Here are some of our favourites in Canggu: Warung Yess, Ithaka Warung, Warung Local, Warung Bu Mi, Varuna Warung and Warung Sika.

15. Have Fun on G Swing Bali
If you’ve ever seen photos or videos on Instagram and TikTok of Canggu, you’ve undoubtedly seen G Swing Bali.
It’s not quite the wooden swings on the beaches you have elsewhere in Bali, it’s a bit different.
It’s a massive swing that takes you soaring high above the rice fields and trust us, the views are absolutely insane.
Like most places in Bali, the staff are pros at getting you the perfect shot, and the adrenaline rush as you swing out over the green terraces is unreal. Even if you’re not an Instagram fanatic, the experience itself is pretty unforgettable.
16. Unwind with a Spa Day
If your muscles are crying from too much surfing (or let’s be honest, too many late nights at Old Man’s), treating yourself to a spa day in Canggu is a must.
The spas here range from simple local spots to proper luxury retreats, so there’s something for every budget.
Traditional Balinese massages are the way to go – they’ll work out knots you didn’t even know you had.
Here’s where we recommend going:
- Tonic Spa – Famous spa in Canggu known for its pink doors. Tonic offers affordable massages, both traditional and modern. You can get a 60-minute Balinese Massage for 310k (£15).
- Lotus Spa – Another great spa in Canggu, but a more affordable option and also fewer massages to choose from. At the Lotus Spa, a 60-minute Balinese Massage costs 190k (£9).
- Spring Spa Canggu – Spring Spa Canggu is part of a spa chain found in New Zealand and Bali which offers a luxurious experience. A 60-minute Balinese Massage here also costs 310k (£15).

17. Look After Yourself with a Makeover Day
Continuing with the theme of relaxing and unwinding, Canggu is the perfect spot to treat yourself to a proper makeover day.
You can find boutique beauty spots that offer everything from fresh nails for beach-ready feet to rejuvenating facials and expert hair transformations.
The prices are a fraction of what you’d pay back home and honestly, the service is a lot better most of the time.
Our top three picks are HAIR Canggu, Estetica Belle and HiSugars Canggu.
Most salons also offer packages where you can spend the whole day being pampered – perfect for refreshing that travel-worn look or just because you deserve it!
18. Visit Some Temples
And of course, no trip to Canggu is complete without exploring some of Bali’s most incredible temples.
Tanah Lot is the main attraction – it’s an ancient sea temple that sits on a rocky outcrop with waves crashing all around it. At sunset, it looks like something straight out of a fairytale.
Another one we recommend checking out is just a short drive away from the village, Taman Ayun, a royal temple surrounded by beautiful gardens and lotus ponds.
Pro tip: head to Tanah Lot early morning or late afternoon to dodge the tourist crowds and get the best photos
Both temples are still active religious sites, so remember to bring a sarong to ensure your knees and shoulders are covered, and of course, always be respectful to the locals who are practising their religion.

19. Be Productive at a Coworking Space
Over the last few years, Canggu has become a major digital nomad hub, and the coworking spaces here are incredible.
They all have high-speed internet, air conditioning (a lifesaver in Bali’s heat), and the kind of interior design that makes even answering emails feel cool.
Our faves are Zin Cafe which is actually free as long as you buy something to eat or drink, and Tribal, which is actually Bali’s first purpose-built Coworking Hostel – who knew such a thing existed?

20. Get Fit at a Workout Class
As you’ll know by this point of the post, Canggu’s fitness scene is absolutely booming, with world-class workout spots all over town.
Get your heart pumping at F45 Training Center with their hardcore group sessions, or join the morning spin classes at Zycle where the music and energy is unreal.
For something more focused on strength and toning, check out BYND Fitness Center, while Revive+ is the spot for reformer Pilates that’ll work every muscle in your body.
The best part about working out in Canggu is you can reward yourself with a healthy smoothie bowl right after – you’ve definitely earned it!
21. Eat Vegan
If you’re a vegetarian or vegan, you’re going to find it super easy to eat in Canggu.
Canggu’s cuisine is really focused on organic, healthy meals and if you ask us, it definitely has some of the best vegan spots in Bali.
Most restaurants source their ingredients from local farms, so everything tastes super fresh.
Plus, the prices are way lower than what you’d pay for similar food back home – meaning you can eat like Vegan king without breaking the bank!
- Shady Shack – Shady Shack offers a big menu which includes an all-day breakfast, coffee, teas, healthy smoothies, juices, burgers and salads, share plates, delicious mains and decadent vegan desserts.
- KYND Community – A 100% plant-based restaurant with another location in Seminyak (defo worth checking out that one if you are going there too). Our favourite part about KYND is that you can buy cookbooks with all of their recipes to make yourself at home.
- Roots – Roots is open all day from breakfast until night, so they have two different menus…both of which are incredible. The “build your own bowl” option is always our go-to.
- I am Vegan Babe – Funny name, great food. A perfect combination. The food at I Am Vegan Babe is so good that if you do eat meat, you can have a burger and genuinely won’t taste a difference. But of course, it’s all 100% plant-based.
- Secret Spot Canggu – It’s no secret that the food here is delicious, despite what the name might tell you. Plus, Secret Spot have been recycling their waste since 2015, another win for our planet.

Is Canggu Worth Visiting?
Canggu is 100% worth visiting – and trust us, we’re not just saying that because it’s trendy right now!
It has definitely grown into one of Bali’s coolest and most popular spots, but it hasn’t lost that chilled-out vibe that made everyone fall in love with it in the first place.
What makes Canggu so special is how it perfectly blends old and new. You’ve got traditional temples right next to cool coffee shops, rice paddies behind beach clubs, and local warungs serving up amazing food alongside fancy restaurants.
The surf scene is epic (whether you’re a pro or a total beginner), and the beaches are beautiful in that raw, untouched way.
Sure, it’s gotten busier over the years, but it still feels much more relaxed than Kuta or Seminyak.
If you’re after that sweet spot between Bali’s traditional charm and modern comforts, Canggu is your place.
How Many Days in Canggu, Bali?
We’d recommend spending at least 2-3 days in Canggu to really soak up the vibe.
While you could technically see the main spots in a few days, you’d be rushing around and missing out on what makes Canggu special – that laid-back, take-it-slow vibes.
A longer stay gives you time to find your favourite cafe for morning smoothie or acai bowls, test out different surf spots (as we’ve shown throughout this post, there are plenty), and actually chill at the beach instead of just ticking it off your list.
Plus, Canggu’s sunsets never get old, and you’ll want to try a few different beach clubs to watch them from.
If you’re into surfing or want to learn, add a couple of extra days to really make the most of your time in one of Bali’s best surfing spots.
And with so many cool places for working, eating, and hanging out, don’t be surprised if you end up extending your stay. Most people do – especially if you are travelling solo as one of the biggest perks is being able to extend trips as you please!
Best Time to Visit Canggu
We’re strong believers that there’s no “bad” time to visit Canggu – it’s great all year so definitely don’t put off your trip if you aren’t visiting during the “best” months.
That being said, the best time to visit Canggu is during the dry season between April and October.
During these months, you’ll get perfect beach weather with sunny days, lower humidity, and the best conditions for surfing. Plus, those famous Canggu sunsets are even more spectacular when the sky is clear of clouds!
The most popular months are July and August, probably because of it being the summer holidays and kids being off school, but honestly, if you can visit in May, June, or September, you’ll get the same great weather with fewer crowds and better prices on accommodation – a big win if you’re travelling on a budget.
