Thailand is a place full of adventure and exploration, relaxation and tranquility. You can do nothing, anything and everything in between. It can be whatever you want it to be. Surely, like anywhere in the world, you have best and worst times to visit? Maybe it’s colder in some form of winter-like months? Well, Thailand and South East Asia runs a little differently compared to a most other places in the world. There aren’t Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter months… Thailand and the tropical countries have wet and dry seasons, both come with their own incredible benefits 😃
What’s great about Thailand?
It would be so much easier for me to write what’s not great about Thailand. There really isn’t much… see I told that would be easy! It’s a big place, but with the right 2 week itinerary you can see all Thailand has to offer in a few short weeks… and what an epic couple of weeks that would be! 🌴☀️
Imagine relaxing on some of the best beaches in the world with a coconut in hand… soaking up the sun. Then when you feel like cooling off you grab a snorkel and head to the crystal clear water. After that much needed tanning time you take a brief walk to a nearby viewpoint to see the island from a different perspective. While enjoying the view you and decide to take a selfie with another traveller and before you know it you’re talking about nightlife on the island. Before you know there is a bunch of you dancing the night away wearing jazzy shirts and neon paint. It’s days like these that make the south of Thailand the most incredible place to top up that tan, enjoy the island life and dance like nobody is watching… and did I mention… that’s only the south!!
Now you’ve got that base tan it’s time to head north, where the jungle reins supreme. Animal sanctuary’s (legitimate ones) are an amazing opportunity for you to see unbelievable creatures up close and in their own natural habitat. There are waterfalls, temples and tropical landscapes that will make you rub your eyes in disbelief 🤩. There’s no where else you could do all that, and so much more in just a few weeks. I haven’t even begun to speak about Bangkok yet! but that’s enough selling for now… it’s already clear that Thailand is the place to be.
When is the best time to visit Thailand?
There’s no doubt after hearing about the incredible things you’ll be doing when you arrive that you immediately began to google “when is the best time to visit Thailand?”…am I right? There is a reason we at Feel Free Travel offer tours all year round, and that’s because the outcome is still the same regardless of when you arrive… it’s one hell of a trip and one you’ll never forget!
The beauty of travelling both north and south is the varying climates, you can wake up with sunshine in the south and then be welcomed by rain in the north or visa versa. What really separates the ‘seasons’ in Thailand is usually the volume of tourists travelling at any one time. The ‘wet season’ usually comes with much quieter beaches and luscious greenery while the dry season can be more lively with bustling streets and epic beach parties. There really is no perfect time to visit if you’re asking me!
Dry Season ☀️
The hottest months are typically April – May, however the dry season covers the 6 months between November and April. With the sun shining and temperates at there peak you’ll come back with a bronzed look to say the least or rosie shoulders 🤭. The sun brings people, and they are in abundance during this time. Bars, beaches, temples… all you name it. You’ll struggle not to make friends after a couple of Chang beers at a swim up bar that’s for sure!
You’ll want to avoid doing any viewpoints in the middle of the day and try and get up there nice and early or later in the day when it starts to cool off a little. Early mornings are the best time to see incredible views anyway, so why sleep in when you could see all the breathtaking viewpoints Thailand has to offer?
Wet Season 🌴
If you’re from the UK, like me, then the idea of a wet season might bring flashbacks of being a kid. Those days spent sitting by the window hoping it would stop raining just so you could go out and play with your mates! Thankfully that couldn’t be further from the truth in Thailand. Rain here works differently, which means no constant all day drizzle – when it rains it literally POURS. You’ll be laughing and joking when you get caught out in your 1st downpour 🤣. You tend to get an entire day’s worth in just an hour or two, but at least what follows is sunshine and blue skies. The sun dries everything up pretty quickly, and then you can get back out too enjoying yourself all over again.
Hot tip: Brief showers are an excellent opportunity to pop into a nearby bar or coffee shop for a cold beer or iced coffee Thai style!
This time is sometimes referred to as low season, which is what the locals say due to the number of people around. Don’t mistake this as being empty or derelict, this is just in relation to the sheer number of travellers they are used to accommodating in the dry months. During this time you will get deals of a lifetime on just about anything you can think of, which is crazy given the already amazing prices during high season! 💵
Why Wait?
The fact that Thailand is so incredible all year round gives you the unique opportunity to make a decision. You get to decide when is the right time for you. Do you want to be there when it’s quieter, nature is at its peak and things are generally at a slower pace? Or are you wanting things to be a little busier with bustling streets and thumping beach parties? The choice is yours but if theres 1 thing we know for sure – Thailand can comfortably accommodate either, so the rest is simply up to you!
